Files
The Files tab shows you how many requests were received for each file, and also the total amount of bandwidth used
for that file.
If you want
to know the referrer for a particular file, select it and click the "Referred by/to..." button. This will show you which pages
are linking to that file, including pages on your own website, and also what pages on your own website people visited
by clicking a link on that page.
There are four columns of results which show you how many requests there were for each file:
- Total Requests
- This is the total number of requests or "hits" for that file. This is usually more than the total number
of visitors who got that file, as the number is inflated by people using Download Manager software, which
sends multiple requests for the same file to speed up the download.
- Gets
- This figure gives you a much more accurate idea of the true number of visitors who downloaded that file, as
even with a Download Manager there is usually only one "get" (and lots of resumes).
- Reloads
- A reload usually occurs when the user refreshes or navigates back to a page they've already visited. Instead
of sending the whole page again, the web server just tells the user's browser that the page has not been updated.
- Resumes
- A resume usually occurs when the browser is requesting only part of the file. This is usually because the user
is using Download Manager software, which breaks the file into smaller pieces.
