How many visitors does my website receive, and where do they come from?

You can use Xlogan to find out:

  • How many visitors your website receives
  • Which other websites refer visitors to yours
  • Which countries your visitors come from
  • Which pages each visitor views

and much more. Here is an example of Xlogan's Report Summary:

Xlogan Report Summary

Xlogan's Report Summary shows you how many visitors your website receives each day, and each hour. You can view this information as a graph, or you can look at the raw numbers. Xlogan tells you how "hits" your website received, and how many unique visitors.

What is the difference between "hits" and unique visitors?

A "hit" is counted every single time your website sends a page or graphic to a visitor. So, if one visitor looks at your homepage, that counts as one hit. If your homepage links to nine graphics - logos, photographs etc. - that counts as nine more "hits", giving a total of 10 hits overall. If your visitor leaves your site at this point without looking at any more pages, they have still registered 10 "hits" - this means that hits alone don't give you a very clear idea about how popular your website is.

Viewing more information about your visitors

The Visitors tab of Xlogan's Report shows you detailed information about each visitor to your site. Here is an example:

Xlogan Visitor Report

You can select any visitor and click the "Details" button to view detailed information about that visitor. You can see what country they came from, which website referred them to yours, information about each page that the visitor viewed, plus information on their web browser (e.g. Internet Explorer, Firefox) and operating system (e.g. Windows XP, Linux) and how much bandwidth they used.

Referrers show you where your visitors come from

To find out which websites are linking to you, look at Xlogan's Referrers Report. Here is an example:

Xlogan Referrers Report

You can see each website that links to you, and how many visitors they sent. You can click the "Visit URL" button to visit the website.

It is often interesting to check the Referrers Report when you see a sudden increase in visitors to your site - you may find a popular website, forum or blog is linking to you.

Xlogan Country Report

The Xlogan Country Report tells you where your visitors are based geographically. Because Xlogan has to check each visitor's IP address against a database to find out their country, this makes it take very slightly longer for Xlogan to process your log file. You can turn the country report on or off from the Options window.

Here is an example of Xlogan's Country Report:

You can see what percentage of your visitors come from the United States, United Kingdom etc.
