What browsers do my website visitors use?

It is important to know what web browsers your visitors are using, so you can perform the appropriate testing on your website. You don't want to find that half of your visitors see your carefully-designed layout broken!

These days it is probably not worth testing your website on older browsers such as Netscape Navigator 4. Xlogan's Browser Report can help you work out what browsers to test your site with.

Here is an example of Xlogan's Browser Report:

Xlogan can tell you what percentage of your website visitors are using:

  • Internet Explorer 4, 5, 6 and 7
  • Firefox 1.0, 1.5 and 2.0
  • Opera
  • Safari
  • Less common browsers such as Netscape and WebTV

It is worth checking your Browser report fairly often, as patterns of usage can change relatively quickly. At the moment, the take-up of Internet Explorer 7 is increasing, and once-popular browsers such as Netscape are becoming much more rare.

If you know which browsers your visitors are using, you can tailor your website testing to ensure that more people see your website as you intend it to look, and you don't lose visitors unnecessarily.
