I know that you (Alex) have got your web page hosted on someone elses server - but what happens if you have a permenent on-line connection and want to host your own site?

Can you point me in the right direction here?

Ummm, my brother does that (using cable)...I think you need something called a 'U' server or something...? Sorry, I don't know much about it.

Download a web server such as Apache, set it up, and run it - simple.

Presumably your permanent connection will be via ADSL or a cable modem or somesuch, and your provider probably takes steps to prevent you running a server on it, such as by changing your IP address every few days. You can get around this using an IP forwarding service - try www.dyndns.org.

Yes - thank you.

I *was* talking about things such as www.dyndns.org where I wanted to register a domain name and have it forwarded to *my* server..... thank you.
