Hi i would like to try if anyone can connect to my computer to see if they can attempt to play a text game. As i have just joined and have no program at all yet! I have loaded one of the members downloads. Reason? it may be my ISP provider AOL's fault because it doesnot supply an ip address. But I THINK that I have found my Host Name PB COMPUTER. Which with your help will tell me if it works.
Iam using the latest version of Quest 3 pro,
so try typing the following
PB COMPUTER
making sure the port number is still 10001.
I will try to keep my computer running for a couple of days for the test, but dont moan if it doesn't work.

The host name "PB COMPUTER" won't work - that's just the name for your computer on a local network.
AOL probably hides a number of computers behind one IP address - which means you can't accept incoming connections through AOL, and hence can't run a server of any kind (QuestNet, web server, FTP server etc.) via your AOL connection.

I have it from AOL that my IP address changes everytime I log on.
Here is my current. IP address
217.137.196.142

I just tried connecting (this is ten minutes after your post so hopefully you're still running the server). Quest got to "waiting for response". This usually means that there is some computer at that IP address, but it's not responding on port 10001 (I presume you left the port at the default).
It could be that AOL has some kind of firewall that blocks incoming connections.

OK Alex,
from now on I will try to leave an updated
IP address on my basic cruddy web site. So people with Quest download they might like to try.Another problem Aol also likes to timeout fairly regular..so its a bit of a gamble.
If only I could write a little macro or something that would check my ip evertime i log on and put it on my webpage. You definately have a ready customer for Questnet prog.
ps even with stayon pro ha!
