Using panes

I know it,s probably just me but does anyone else have the same problem and how do you deal with it. In some games you have to do an action quickly before it moves on when I try and use USE on the panes it always tells me I can,t use that here if I try to type it in I don,t have time.OK I am not very ofey with computers and my son has shown me click and drag but still find in some games you need to type quickly
